Labour-Management Partnerships

Client: Joint Electrical Promotion Plan (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Construction Council of Ontario and Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario)
Project: Annual Training Conference

Contracted by Labour-Management stakeholders in the organized electrical industry in Ontario. Designed and facilitated their 1st Annual Training Conference, attended by 74 delegates, to identify best practices in: apprenticeship administration; apprentice training; journeyman training; and, recruitment. (2001) Subsequently, worked with a Steering Committee to develop a draft Action Plan. Designed and facilitated their 2nd Annual Training Conference, to build a consensus on strategic recommendations. (2002)

Carol MacLeod drew on her knowledge of Labour-Management relations and practical experience in negotiation and conflict resolution. Labour and Management partners typically view her as a neutral, third-party facilitator skilled in managing competing interests and building consensus.

Project: Joint Interest-based Negotiation Training

Delivered a series of negotiation training sessions (introductory and advanced), based on the work of the Harvard Negotiation Project, to Labour and Management stakeholders (1998-2000). The three-day introductory training featured the use of negotiation case studies to build skill through hands-on experience and feedback. Two-day advanced training sessions were held for each set of business unit bargaining teams (e.g., Generation, Customer Service) to facilitate the transition to business unit bargaining. &has also been involved in a number of related projects promoting Labour-Management cooperation.

While pursuing a graduate degree at Harvard University, Carol MacLeod studied negotiation at Harvard Law School under Professors Roger Fisher and Bruce Patton to complement her hands-on experience as a negotiator and negotiation trainer.
