Occupational Analysis

Client: Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council www.cthrc.com
Project: National Occupational Standards for the Trucking Industry in Canada

Adapted the DACUM methodology to develop national occupational standards outlining the skills and knowledge requirements for four occupations: Dispatcher (1999); Professional Driver (2000); Professional Driver Trainer (2002); and, Transportation Safety Professional (2002). Also established the corresponding standards for essential skills. This information is being used to develop human resource products and services related to recruitment, training and retention.

The project involved working with a Steering Committee for each occupation and cross-Canada consultations among industry stakeholders using quantitative (e.g., survey) and qualitative data-gathering techniques (e.g., focus groups, interviews).

Project: Competency Profiles

Used the Dynamic Competency Profiling Model, developed by Carol MacLeod & Glenda Lewe, to develop competency profiles for management and staff occupations. This information was used to develop learning plans. (1999-2002)

Occupational information was gathered through one-on-one interviews and focus groups with job incumbents and validated with management.

Project: Job Profiling
Used the WorkKeys® methodology to identify the Reading for Information and Locating Information skills required by various jobs in the brewing industry. This information was used to set criteria for selecting new employees. The research involved plant tours in two states and focus groups with subject-matter experts. (1999)
